The improvement and promotion of the attraction of Greek goods/services for foreign
buyers.
Finally, activities having to do with the operation of the Market overall, as well as individ-
ual markets, will be of fundamental importance, under terms of healthy and legitimate
competition within the framework of and according to the rules of the European Internal
Market. Such action will be supposed to foresee:
• The collaboration of government-export institutions for the reduction of the cost of infor-
mation and bureaucracy and the lifting of known disincentives
• The creation of a Centre of Information Exports and Linkage of suppliers-buyers, with the
use of new technologies and the collaboration of business chambers and structures of
Greek economic diplomacy.
The PEA memorandum concludes by underscoring that the "fulfillment of the vision for a
more extroverted economy, will be of great service to the country and is a long lasting proj-
ect," as well as that "the day after" the crisis may open up a new cycle of dynamic and sus-
tainable development that will ensure for Greece long term viable growth, employment,
and prosperity.
In any event, The Association of Northern Greek Exporters (SEVE) notes significant oppor-
tunities for the penetration of new target markets by Greek products because of the glob-
al crisis, and using this argument is vehemently against possible cuts by the government
of expenditures for the participation of Greek enterprisesin international trade shows.
SEVE president and the board of the institution, using data provided by Eurostat on
European and Eurozone trade exchanges for the first five months of 2014, and data from
the Bank of Greece for the Greek goods and services balance of trade for the same period
stress that it is obvious that despite the significant reduction of Greek exports in the first
months of 2014, Greek performance is better that the relevant European performances in
the crucial target countries.
We must take advantage of the comparatively small decrease of Greek exports and turn it
into an advantage for opening up new markets at a time when competition on a European
level is being significantly harmed with large drops in export activities. This gives oppor-
tunity for optimism for the future, but accentuates the necessity to support Greek export
dynamics.
