Tradition and modern technology have been harmoniously combined in
the production of olive oil.
80% of Greek olive oil belongs to the top category of extra virgin olive
oil.
The small size of the olive groves allows for special care and devotion
by the producer.
The olive fruit spends in storage the minimum possible time before
pressing.
From the first till the last stage of the production process there are con-
tinuous quality controls according to criteria, strictly specified, by the
national and the European legislature.
The olive oil packing companies offer a guarantee for a top quality, safe
and healthy product.
More than 120,000,000 olive trees are planted in Greece.
By analogy, that means that there are 12 olive trees for every Greek cit-
izen.
350,000 tons is the value of the annual olive oil production.
1.4 billion euros is the value of the annual production of olive oil.
Greece is the 3rd largest producer of olive oil, with a share of 16% of
the world olive oil market.
2,200 oil mills exist all around the country.
The olives are processed shortly after they are taken to the mill. In this
way the olive oil produced keeps all its special organoleptic character-
istics.
400 packing companies are operating in the country.
Packing companies apply all quality control and product safety proce-
dures and criteria provided by the European Union legislation and the
principles of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
More than 150 packing companies are involved in the export of brand-
ed greek olive oil.
